Serious question. There must be a reason so give us your theories.

"Go on Ivan, you tell everyone we're ready to spunk £50m on a player, then I'll only sign a couple of kids from Ligue 2!"

"Nice one Arsene, EUFS will have a conniption! It'll be piss funny..."

Ivan bigs up the budget, and Arsene makes some phantom moves.

- Higuiain to ensure that Rafa outbids us, and fills RM coffers enough for them to buy Gareth Bale, thus prising him away from Spurs.

- Suarez to unsettle Liverpool.

As time dribbles away (and they are confident of getting through the August matches with what we need), players around Europe see that we haven't spent and think that they'd like to play for us because of the money that's available for their salaries. Suddenly everyone wants to play for Arsenal, and as the end of the window approaches, prices comes down and our desirability goes up.

Alternatively, we just don't know what the fùck we're doing when it comes to buying players at this level, and Arsene has completely dithered over replacing the squard.

The second theory seems far more plausible tbh.

It really doesn't.

Player have been traded for months now, it can be done. I cannot for a second find a reason to justify Arsene's stance to date.

to a mental market where more and more clubs are spending money like drunken sailors. Despite our increased spending power, Wenger is still playing the game a leetle bit with his frugal handbrake on

Maybe arsene cant get who he wants and wont buy rubbish.

Maybe the whole financial firepower was a load of old **** and we are still skint.

We are far from being skint. Very far in fact. Read Swiss rambles blog from this week.

when Gazidis he was asked if the club could afford to pay £25m and £200,000-a-week in wages to one player – the kind of deal required to acquire Rooney – he said: "Of course we could do that. We could do more than that.

He should have alternatives.

If he has decided he wants to buy x, y and z then that is because he as manager of the football club has identified and recognised a weakness in his squad and is correctly looking to address it.

To then stand back and not do so is to ignore that weakness and to gamble on the status quo.

We allegedly have global scouting networks the envy of many or most other clubs, we also have oodles and oodles of real cash. There is also many other top quality footballers in the world other than players x, y and z.

Wenger out.
