View Full Version : Perhaps AW & Ivan are just waiting for deadline day?

maybe they saw our opening few fixtures and thought, this current squad are more than capable of winning the opening few games without new additions (a sentiment I would agree with) and we'll just do some proper dealing as deadline day closes in and actually get value for money........

I would have hated breaking our transfer record on such an odious player, skilled as he may be..

the press/twitter haven't had a sniff of

Yilmas at Galatasary
Eriksen at Ajax
Gustavo at Bayern

lots of very good players out there, I'm sure something will happen

It depends where you think the odds are, and whether you have *** free money *** to burn.

£30m was considered over-the-odds for Rio Ferdinand at the time. Less so now for the value he paid back over time.

the fools have struggled to sign QPR's GK , just as they did with Fulham's one . The big mistake though was missing out on on Higuain , a player who wanted to join us.
Wenger is out of touch with reality, the days when he could sign top-class players at bargain basement prices are long gone.
The offers for Suarez were never realistic ones and doomed to fail. Wenger and Ivan were hoping that Suarez would cause enough strife to force Liverpool to sell him at a lower price than he is worth.
This was a stupid ploy anyway, because once it became obvious that the bucktoothed cannibal was available for silly money then one of the big clubs would have jumped in and gazumped us on wages - and the prospect of winning trophies. End of.

Wenger probably will make a last minute signing or two ,but they will only be squad type players .

Napoli ended up paying £36m for him!! Not worth that sort of money by any stretch

miss chances, concede stupid goals. How we end the previous season isn't always a guide to how we will start the next season. We can easily draw with Villa (it has happened before), Fulham away is always difficult (We have lost there a few times) and Spurs home won't be a walk in the park. We could be beaten by Fenebache, it is possible.

Yes we should be 9 from 3 and into the CL proper, but we could easily be 2 from 3 and out of the CL. Then where does that leave us?

drove the price up......although I suppose Benitez does have a track record of blowing huge sums of cash on average players

to be winnable with this squad, fair enough! I totally agree with that.

If we don't get 9 points from 3 games (and that is feasible), they will look like total mugs, if this brinkmanship approach was indeed the strategy. If we go out of the CL, we can kiss goodbye to any of the main targets, other than one or two average squad players that will do little to improve this squad.

I'm not saying that we should have gone nuts in the market, nor am I saying that we should have bought 3 or 4 players by now. All I am saying is that this strategy, if in any way true, is a dangerous one.

£23M did seem a bit too good to be true

And with the greatest of respect, the advantage of signing players earlier is not really about the first three games. Its about having a pre-season to get them settled in the club and the team.

I doubt very much that this is the reason. I suspect it is more abput the cl qualifier. Two years ago wenger first introduced the excuse of not being able to sign anyone because we werent in the cl yet. I do wonder whether the block is the club. They may feel thy dont need such a big squad unless we are in the cl.

No evidence of any other negotiations or bids.
