What are you going to do with the potential quid you might save every month? Bah.

This is the advice I gave my dad when he told me he needed broadband at his house.

£30 a month (for HTC One, but iPhones and Galaxys are the same price).

2k mins, 5k texts, 5k 3 to 3 calls and unlimited broadband.

On speedtest, we're getting 15-30 meg download and 2 meg upload.

When we still had our virgin broadband, we never got more than 20 down and 1 up.

So its faster.

The only drawbacks are that I haven't yet worked out how to make our wifi printer work with it, and 08 numbers.

But I'm not paying £400 a year just so I don't have to plug in the printer.

And there's an app, 08wizard or somesuch, for 69p which will turn your 80 number into a landline.

The Virgin was switched off on Monday and the wifi's working fine with the phone, as it did when we still had the Virgin and were testing out the phones to make sure it would be ok to cancel.

I highly recommend it.

As we've both got the phones, if one of us is out there's no problem.

As I say, it's saving us a fortune and we're getting faster speeds.

You're getting 15-30 mb speeds over 3G?

Really?

I thought it was limited to about 7-8mb?

And the average in the uk is about 2mb on 3G?

not to be sniffed at if you're poor like me.

Saving £300+ p/a and getting faster download and upload speeds.

We're well happy that it's working.

Sports, streams work fine as does iPlayer etc.

And 3 don't seem to manage your usage like Virgin did.

Really would recommend it.

Both 3 mobile on HTC Ones.

I've got up to 30 before, but 18-20 seems the normal range.

Using speedtest.net

Virgin never gave me more than 20, and the upload was 1 or even less.

My gf has now got 4g with EE but it's the biggest con going. Such a ****ty allowance.

Talk-talk's own tester when I rang them up about a problem.

I saw an advert on the tube where 3 were saying that you don't need to switch to EE for 4G as they're calling their stuff 3.9G which we gradually be rolled out as 4G for no extra cost.

I dunno exactly how they're doing it, but it works.

I use a 7.2 dongle in India, which was giving 7 down and 2 up, and 3 mobile's definitely faster than that. And it's at least as fast, sometimes noticeably faster, than Virgin which was giving in the 12-17 region, 20 max.

I'm deffo getting at least as good speed as I was with Virgin.

The thing I just looked at said that that was important, as was having a new handset.

But we can have a few streams going on 2 different computers with no probs at all.

Locked in a bit with TalkTalk. But at least I just took £15 a month off what I pay them so I could use that to get BT Sport I guess.

borrow someone's 3 mobile and give it a go, to see if you get decent speeds.

If so, I'd wait until you can switch to 3 and just use that.

As I say, about £30 p/m for a new phone with 2k calls, 5k texts, 5k 3-to-3 and unlimited broadband.

Or you can get the same deal as sim only for £17 p/m

So if you have a nice phone whose contract is up, you can keep the handset and get the 3 £17 a month deal, and drop your home broadband.

Why pay for broadband and a phone when you can just use the phone?
