I've not read the article, but that's my first reaction...

I don't know the ins and outs of this current story of the girl who topped herself due to cyber bullying but it seems strange to me why someone would keep visiting the site if you are getting hassled.

it's not like being at school and being bullied as you are forced to go to school.

isn't very nice. And - for that matter - that there may be some unfortunate (and not unrelated) side effects to the easy availability of hard core pornography.

Don't think it's really a panic as a growing realisation that the internet is both doing some messed-up things to people's heads and allowing messed up people to behave badly under a cloak of anonymity.

people - at risk. I just haven't seen the "hysteria" that is talked of in this article, nor have I seen the media try to ramp this up into a moral panic even remotely comparable with black muggers, football hooligans, etc.

a few sentences called it the Hidden Internet.

Make your mind up.

, it is tempting to roll our eyes and think of those who are shocked when they receive abuse from strangers as naive. But in fact it is quite understandable.

speaking to strangers on here in a way that, for someone unaccustomed to the rough and tumble of message boards, would find quite shocking.

And that's despite us both having "grown up".

However, it does highlight how the abuse goes on here. It just seems that some 'get away with it' on here, and no one bats an eyelid (because they are an allegedly popular member of the board).

Sickening stuff.
