as it were.

The more recent ones, with him doing his radio programmes, I found funnier.

They're some of the best written, best performed scripts ever. We're about 15 years after I'm Alan Partridge was released and it's still a great cultural reference point for people.

I think it might actually be the best comedy series ever.

It's like finding out what's in the Pulp Fiction briefcase.

Though, in fairness the whole throwing-the-shoes-over-the-pub thing was superb.

I think it's partly the knowledge that that monster was actually living in Cleese's head that I find disturbing.

I'm not saying that the Partridge character went that far, but I did find it excruciating. Nor am I saying it wasn't good, just that I personally wasn't always comfortable with it. Having said that, I'm not by any means familiar with the entire canon.

I think Iannucci is very good (loved Thick of It), and I agree about the quality of the scripts and performance, especially in the film where I suspect they spent the time and money on getting the funniest gags and executing them to perfection. Of course it doesn't look visually cheap either.
