View Full Version : Just had an interesting conversation with Talk Talk about moving house

I currently pay £31.45 per month for phone and fibre optic broadband. I looked up my new address and it says that fibre is not available there. So I rang Talk Talk to try and cancel the whole thing (I am about 5 months into an 18 month contract). My angle was that as you can no longer supply me fibre, the contract is null and void, let me leave. Then I would join BT and get the football for free...

So I go through to cancellations and they tell me that fibre is indeed available now and online was out of date telling me it wasn't. But I still tell them I want to cancel and they tell me it will cost me £220 to cancel. They have me by the balls then. So I ask what the speed is without fibre and am told 16-20 mb. That is okay for me, I am thinking. The reason I got fibre in my old flat was because I was getting 2.5mb. And I only get about 35 now with fibre. Normal price without fibre is £21.45 per month. But without prompting he offers me £18.20 per month for 12 months. So I ask if that is the best he can do. He offers me £16.20 per month.

So from them having me by the balls saying I can't cancel without paying £220, they have now moved me from £31.45 for the next 13 months to £16.20 per month for the next 12 months.

Next conversation to be had is with Sky, I currently pay for the whole deal with sports, movies, HD etc. £62 odd a month. Might tell them I am moving to Virgin.

Don't come south Fash, you will never feel comfortable on my side.

next to Tower Hill tube station. However, I doubt it will have wifi.

I doubt I'll be there much and will most likely just go out drinking after work, but when I am there I want the internet.

Is there any solution for me? Or will I just have to make do with the 3G on my phone?

Leave and not wanting to pay £220 to getting you signed up for another 12 months at a cost of £194.

I wasn't going to pay £220 to get out of the contract, so that left me signed up to them for 13 months at a cost of £408.85.

Great architecture, lots of bars, stuff to do, green, near the river. Can't really go wrong.

Didn't get that great a deal.

The other thing is I leave and set up in the new flat under my girlfriends name. I have a friend who works for Sky and she can get good deals for new customers.

I don't think Fulham is ready for Fash. I am doing you and the rest of Fulham a favour trying to get him up into Hammersmith.

However, I was born in Hammersmith, don't want him ruining there either.

He'll probably end up in Rayners Lane or something.

I hope Fash never reads this.

but I told her to remember that I still need to remain calm and to my budget.

Maybe you could have easily got out of the contract somehow and they knew it

But I am happy to have saved £15 per month, could pay for BT Sport separately if I want it. But am not sure I am going to bother.
