Bizarre as it might sound, the film was originally planned as a vehicle for David Bowie and Mick Jagger soon after their 'Dancing in the Streets' duet. They then dropped out during development and Caine and Martin stepped in...

I could have imagined Bowie chiding Ruprecht/Jagger and threatening him with the genital cuff...
