Threatening to rape someone isn't very nice, so one oughtn't do it. Sadly, our children don't seem to have been brought up to understand these things. I blame the parents. In short, your mum.

It's off though, there does seem to have recently been a new type of feminism on the rise.

It's like there's this weird Girl Power generation of strident, angsty, artsy but utterly vacuous young ladies popping up all over the news claiming some sort of constituency that I'm not sure exists.

but it simply isn't in the same category as a debilitating, life-threatening illness.

The freetard attitude to professional content is as bad as the dribbling and ugly tedium of most people's online utterings.

or was that an even more vacuous thing?

I cant help but find this current round a bit to earnest and shrill for me, it's like a virtual reset to the greenham common, anne oakley thing.

The fundamental problem feminism always suffers is at a maximum it can achieve a hung parliament. There are plenty of men on the side of fairness and equality so really, if you want to be anything more than a failed and tired 'ism', you have to take the blokes with you.

rather than trying to tackle men complimenting a woman on the way she looks (a nice pair of legs or jubblies), the little ladies might get somewhere imo

Laurie Pennie, Helen Lewis, et al - are on a highly profitable gravy train.

I would not include Caitlin Moran in that list since she at least wrote a good book that explored womanhood beyond the sphere of the politics of feminism.

For the former, however, this issue makes for easy copy and gets them on Newsnight. No wonder they are so 'angry'.

a form of man bashing where the wimmin want everything equal to men in every respect, but still want to be placed on a pedestal.

That's exactly the type I was referencing and that's exactly what they do. It's a strange social subsect now. Much like the gruff, fortysomething poshboy editor/novelist space Toby Young inhabits.

I just struggle with it as an ideological platform, and that's coming from someone who's a massive lefty bought up by a single female parent. Surely I'm a tap in for any self respecting pretty girl in sensible shoes.

Much of this has not been 'driven' as you put it by those particular women. it has been driven by largely insecure men who feel that its OK to threaten rape, usually with objects, to anyone who highlights issues of gender equality.
