View Full Version : This transfer window has the potential to make us look very small time

I am certainly not in the sign someone, sign anyone camp but I did argue the other week that whilst we hadn't bought anyone at least all our proposed targets hadn't gone anywhere else. Now this is becoming less and less the case and we risk the fairly likely possibility of no "marquee" signing at all, I fear the worst.

The worst being talk****e, general media turning on Arsenal, AW and the board about us being small time, cheap, etc and the majority of our fan base turning on the club

AW will walk

I'll say that I only think we need a a couple of new arrivals to challenge but a top notch striker is a priority

strengthen the squard a bit this window. If we don't then I can no longer be bothered to defend Arsene.

Though you can't prevent news of our targets becoming public.

Why did we move away from Higuain so quickly to Saurez. Now everybody knows we are in the market. Liverpool are playing hardball the rest of the world knows who we are after.

I think Rooney will stay at United. Who's left?

I honestly think we are actually in for this Bernard fella but are f**king around with that too.

relative to the few with sugar daddies. Plus perhaps some incompetency and indecision, well, looking more and more likely a couple of last minute deals.

Way toooooo expensive.....Arsene trying to buy the league....

Personally don't know what's holding up the move for Saint Bernard? Seems an easy play 22m could sell him for 40m next summer....at the very least we'd get our cash back.....

for someone we've not been linked with at all, ever, at all ever!

Everything else is just smoke and mirrors and misdirection ( at this point I will point out I will loov it, just loov it if I'm wrong)

Trouble with that is it'll be another Bendtner type fella.

 ooh to, ooh to be, ooh to be a gooner. we really are in the also ran bracket now aren't we?

'Wenger and the art of scrimping in football'

Although I am quietly pleased that no-one of any note has had to be sold or moved on, even though that is mostly because we dont have anybody left of any note, but it still an improvement on selling your best player to one of your strongest rivals for a pittance (comparatively)

Made a total pigs arse of that

If he was a genuine target, htf did we let the fat controller jump the queue ?
Are we suggesting that Wenger didn't want to pay the £35m but is still happy to cough up £45m for Saurez ?

have had a year to get settled.

Wilshere is back, Ramsey seems to be kicking on from end of last season

As I said, don't think we need to strengthen that much. CB and Striker

that we'd pay 45m for Suarez rather than 35 for Higuain.

Of course, it doesn't help that we know precisely nothing of he details or level of interest in both players.

Real or his agent would have surely only started to jack up the price based on someone else putting in an offer.

Facts are that this squad, plus those that have been moved on in the summer, seriously struggled to finish 4th last season. Wenger came out with a comment that he believes that this squad can challenge for the title. We can all laugh at the lunacy of that comment, but he has said it and it is there to be shot at.

Making the overall squad a bit stronger is not going to cut it (to achieve his comment of being challengers). It is the 1st XI that really needs to be improved. We need 3 top players to come in, a striker, a defender and a power horse in the middle.

I too am not in the sign anyone camp. That would be worse than not signing anyone at all. But the frustration for most Arsenal fans, that includes the AKBs as well as the AW out brigade, is that we are not appearing to move forword. Still time to rectify the situation, but at this moment we are not moving forward.

Go for someone bidding almost double.

Having Higuain as the £23m main target and then switching to £50m Suarez doesn't seem right. You'd think it would be the other way round.

of days of the window left. Though it wouldn't leave LFC much time to spend the cash. Maybe cash + Theo?!

We used to thrive on the perceived hatred of all things Arsenal and use it as motiviation to stick 2 fingers up at them.

I would like to see us buy a striker, a keeper and centre half but am willing to concede that those at the club know more than me. As long as they're willing to concede that now we all know there is money to spend, a groundhog season isn't going to be tolerated by the majority of fans.

Ramsey kicking on.... Jack being back to his best having missed a huge chunk of the last 2 years. The latest signings will have settled. Whether they are even better than they where on the pitch is as much a hope as it would be an expectation...

And it would still be the case regardless of any new arrivals. We are not going to replace the whole team, after all.

Juventus were favourites at one point, but like us pulled out. There's more to it than just looking at the headline fee. Image rights, agents commission etc, Napoli had the Cavani wad to throw at Real and the player and even had we matched their bid they might well have upped it. Even with our so-called war chest remember we've never gone in for bidding wars.
