8-10 nights in Europe ... Do I need to convert to Euros before leaving USA? ... Haven't been to Europe since 2001 but this will be my fourth trip over the Atlantic ... Please advise!

You'll find exchange offices in UK airports, but they'll tear you a new hole. There are few places in mainland Europe where you can exchange money these days. Let your bank know you're travelling, of course.
