A notorious slum was built on his land, known as Agar Town. When (what was eventually called) the Regent's canal was built, it was delayed for years as he refused to give permission for it to go through his land.

Nowdays he is remembered by Agar Grove - almost the only direct east-west road linking modern Camden Town with Islington.
