how did you go about it?

If say I want to move to Canada. Obviously I would have some savings first but I am a bit worried about the job part.

at least you know how everything works.

I would need to see what is a decent salary is over there. I don't even know how their taxes, national insurance (or similar) works.

You in love? How would she feel about moving to Canada?

From what I've picked up about what you do, your skills should be pretty easily transferrable so you wouldn't think it'd be too hard to find something when you're out there. Vancouver or somewhere similar does seem like paradise compared to this dank ****hole, imo.

to various companies and thankfully got a phone call 2 days later from Manchester Evening News and got the job and started a month after arriving

So I told her I can offer her the next best thing.

She said Vancouver is supposed to be good for quality of life. I like Toronto but would settle for Vancouver no problem at all. I wouldn't move to Halifax where my family is as it's a quiet place.

However I could move there for the short term. Get set up with bank accounts etc stay with relatives.

If I do it I would do it in a few years though.

A couple of years down the line you may have too many things tying you down here to be able to make the leap, and it'd be something you'll end up regretting.

Why is the US a write-off for you? I'm considering a similar move but want to see what's available in the US before considering Canada.

I've seen your residential preferences, Sharky. You'd rather live in a desert than on our fine island, soaked not just by life-giving rain but by history and culture.

and they are being removed one by one.

Also my Canadian connection is only going to fuel my interest in North American items.

allows me to stay there as long as I am working
but I need a job offer and for this type of visa I should have a degree.

I did not have a job but I did have somewhere to stay, without which I would not have managed.

Got a temp job at BT within two weeks of arrival which lasted a year. But I still needed the accommodation subsidy.

So, if you know someone who can put you up for a while (including subsidising the costs) then you should be able to do it.

Having said that, I came before the world credit crunch so temp jobs were reasonably easy to get.
