I was at a local authorities meeting earlier this week and 3 people failed to attend, later found out they had been made redundant, 2 of which were a couple and informed the day before they were due to go on holiday.

Not nice, not nice at all!

A cushy number and bumped the 'pay' up to disgraceful levels. A small pay rise and a huge cap on expenses is pretty sensible.

they need to be intelligent (irrespective of your political leaning), they generally need to have a good education, good general knowledge etc they are definitely underpaid

you do.

Like when people put on facebook things like
'pay the politicians minimum wage and see how fast things will change'

well firstly they wouldn't be politicians anymore as they'd all leave. They haven't really thought this through.

have not had a pay rise for years, it sends the wrong message imo when people hear of an 11% increase

and consequently the other teachers had to increase their hours of work with no extra pay

In addition to no pay increase for a long time

their counterparts from other countries thrashing out important deals that affect the success of the UK?

Your argument is like the one that says nurses should earn the same as footballers or Tom Cruise.

12 weeks holiday and this nonsense about being badly paid is well worth ignoring!

for savings and yet these people that have been made redundant / had a salary reduction etc. hear of 11% increase for the MPs.

I am not suggesting they don't deserve it, simply to delay it as everyone else has to.

I have a feeling we won't agree on this one

I am off for some volunteering anyway so enjoy the morning

Good benefits, but working from 8am-9pm every day ain't my idea of fun, even if you get 12 weeks hols a year (some of which you are invariably working to prepare for the next term). All teachers I know love the teaching, hate the politics and paperwork

They're doing exactly the same things, just on behalf of their company rather than their country.

Given the salary they earn as opposed to MPs, they are probably far more experienced and competent than many MPs.
