attendants spotting future signings buying a pack of ready salted crisps or a packet of spangles up at the Colney branch before having their medical at the training ground. I believe that's how we all first learned about the Ronaldinho and Shearer signings back in the very late 90's. happy days when access to AWIMB took 3 hours until I realised my internet connection lead was incorrectly plugged into the wrong phone socket after being on the phone to technical support for most of an evening.
These days all these modern media sources just haven't got the same air of excitement or credibility about them.
