Representatives of the Colonies voted to be independent of the TYRANNY of England.
The July 4 date was made because they figured it would take a couple of days to get the requisite signatures.
John Hancock took half a day signing his own name .. sheesh!
Those who signed their name were signing their death warrant.. not just for them but for their families. Many paid the ultimate price, as did many families. The English were rather unkind to traitors, as they expected.
