God I'm bored. Spoke to a fellow this morning that had them installed 6 months ago. Halved his Leccie bill and will be re-payed in 7 years.

Apart from the financial benefit I am thinking I will get family Brownie points for being a hero of the environment.

God know what else to invest money in at the moment.

Solar panelling is a pretty good investment, all told. Solid wall insulation is expensive but getting much better these days.

example whereas, for various reasons, fracking in the UK is far more expensive and is unlikely to impact prices at all.

That's ignoring the environmental impacts - water pollution, carbon release, etc.

My grandad has them in spain, great whacking f**kers that power everything electrical, he's entirely off grid.

I fear in this country you are on a hiding to nothing, unless we work out a way of harnessing energy from constant, misty drizzle that is.

impact than those feckin eyesores ruining the country, i'd rather have fracking and nuclear imo we need energy we cant go back to being hippys and green ****e is *******s so we just need to bite bullet and get on with noooclear and fracking if need be

Even here, in wet and windy Warwickshire, he generates enough power to half his bill. It cost him £7k in January to install and has saved £329 in six months. With our wonderful British summer he may even save some more in the next 6.

To be honest I figure if I save 30% it is still better than investing in an ISA or somesuch at present

And especially how the people are generally anti-wind power seem to be pro-fracking.

Surely even the most profound of simpletons can work out that a turbine has zero environmental damage. If it's a matter of aesthetics then fine, but this nonsense about light flicker and noise is just a spurious straw man argument for nimbys.

electricity price for you putting a piddling amount of electricity which wouldnt power a lightbulb and gets lost in the transmission back into the grid..green tax loving unrealistic facist cnuts

ever produces, they look ****e, destroy beautiful areas..kill birds and are never going to produce enough energy...just do like france and go nuclear, its only logical solution..if you oging to waste money at least do it on something that makes energy imo

Nuclear power, which I'm actually broadly in favour of, contaminates areas for hundreds of thousand of years. Fossil fuel and gas extraction ruins ecostsyems for thousands.

I simply dont understand the objections on this basis

In fact, green subsidies have greatly reduced over the last five years after onjective one and two funding has run out and the match funding from government has consequently dwindled.

Bit of Argie Bargie in 1982.

I think Help for Heroes actually is more people looking for something to get behind. Not the actual cause itself but more of a gimmick to jump aboard.

My grandad makes enough with a couple of very small turbines to power a house, a pool and to put about as much again back into the storage.

Given this sort of actual, real empirical evidence I'd suggest they might not actually be a bad idea.
