How long to do plan on doing the trip? I often wonder if they are enjoyable. Is it pull up take a few snaps and f**k off to the next place for the smaller places?

Rhine. It's one of my favourite German towns. A bit like Munich but a more manageable size, plus it's in the north so the people are almost civilised and speak a comprehensible version of German. In Munich they're basically Austrian, so not European at all.

they get some funny ideas about who owns what down here though. Just as well the constant supply of beer keeps people from doing anything stupid. No harm can come to one in a bierkeller surely

two more countries to the trip list. Luxembourg is interesting historical place to visit.
On the final Germany stretch I would go a little higher up via Münster rather than Dortmund. Much prettier up there. Mövenpick Hotel Münster is good location for walk into town and dinner by the lake on the way back.
