with the depreciation, all sorts of complicated stuff you have no reason to have considered.

You live in London, don't you? Avoid diesel if you're only doing a limited mileage. While the fuel economy figures look better, diesel is more expensive than petrol, diesel cars are more expensive than the petrol equivalent and cost more to service and repair.

If you had 30k cash you could have it earning interest in the bank and lease one, or you could pay cash up front for one, pay all of the service costs over its lifetime and factor in depreciation costs

You might get one that still has a warranty left (Kia has 7 years). The diesels are very good for fuel economy and they are now well built
