View Full Version : Early 70's British Rock really was, with some exceptions, a bit ****. No surprise punk came along.

Watching this BBC4 hour, when Status Quo is one of the best bands on, you know that the genre is a little bit short in quality.
Fùcking tedious guitar solos.

Status Quo were never recognised as cutting edge musical giants, just a good-time r&b band, that happened to be massive. (I bought Pile Driver :hide: )
The era was swamped with some tedious guitar solos, but there was some quality bands treading the boards.

Thing is we could go on all day here, the early/mid 70's was full of bands with their own signatures, played and wrote all their own music, recorded at least one album a year, played loads of gigs, took lots of drugs, drank loads of liqueur and could still get up on stage and play for a couple of hours.

Certainly, most of the punk era was lacklustre banality, with Television, Magazine etc being the exceptions (the former obv not being English).
