It almost suggests Wenger or Gazidis woke up yesterday morning and read that Carroll was available which resulted in a hurried attempt to cobble together a deal.

Perhaps transfers in football should move towards the Ebay model with players put up for sale and a defined time when that market will close, reserve prices and even Buy Now prices could be installed at a charge to the selling club.

I may bring this concept to the Irish version of Dragons Den given it is filmed in a pub just up the road from me.
