watched the hobbit last night

i finally gave in last night and watched the Hobbit; have to say i did enjoy it but at times with all the CGI felt like i was watching someone play a video game; ie the orcs bridge falling down and how did gollum not know what a hobbit was he was one at one time

1) I've not read the lotr books but the films never say he was a hobbit, just that he was "one of the river folk" and "not so different from a hobbit once"

2) It is also said that Gollum has forgotten everything about his former life, he had even forgotten his own name until frodo reminded him of it.
