I saw both of those at a finsbury park fleadh about 15 years ago. It rained heavily.

I swanned off to a tent to watch the men they couldnt hang

(It was on Twitter, don't tell sw. About the first time Fisherman's Blues was played live in public. Milton Keynes Bowl, 1985. Turns out it wasn't. Anyway. Not that interesting.)

Never got to meet him. Bit of a tricky bugger apparently.

I am sure i would be disappointed if i met him

Should have left after fishermans blues was toured. Room to roam was awful and the attempt to be some kind of travelling modern trad band didnt work.

Ireland does that to people. To be fair, he did it before it became fashionable.

I listened to it last summer in it's entirety for the first time in 15-20 years.

We had been drinking mind you, and we were in Connemara.

His spngwriting was arguably at its lowest point on that album. Some of the songs are dreadfully poor and the overall impression is a twee, cliched picture of ireland. Mike scott is better than that.

Shame. Fishermans blues was fantastic. So is connemara, arguably my favoruite place in the world.
