I just bought a book and it's been shipped. I don't think it will ever go on a ship.

to place, transport, or travel on any conveyance is the definition - it is more apt to use that than p&p which sounds dreadfully outdated. I don't like americanisms any more than the next Chip or Bud, but this one (which like most things has a British root, of course) makes perfect sense
