His going to United makes more sense for more than one reason.

If true and they sell him to Man Utd for say £25 million then we would take £12.5 million of it, or they can sell him to us for £12.5 million outright.

Either way Barcelona aren't getting £25 million.

Coupled with the 1st refusal clause it would be an outstanding bit of negotiating from the board if true.
