View Full Version : What's the problem with England fans singing 'No Surrender'?

On the occasions I've heard it I haven't noticed any offensive lyrics. It may be a little out of date, but it's hardly insulting or provocative, is it? Is the suggestion that the Oirishers will be upset by it? Why, because they're all in the IRA? Even if they were, they can hardly object to 'the other side' expressing a degree of defiance, can they?

when the crowd sing songs at each other, offensive or not. It's when things kick off a bit that I think they have taken matters a little far when they are at a football match.

If Ireland fans sang 'No surrender to the black and tans' I'd just think, 'you're a bit behind the times there lads'. I can't work out why the press are getting so excited about it.

But then I am a jackeen from the pale and may be less sensitive about these issues than others.
