crosses and free kicks were second to none (more or less :hehe: ), he was a team player and a nice guy.

Waddle on the other hand, wouldn't be in my top 10,000 players

he was a good passer and great dead ball deliverer however was never good enought to run the game form midfield , without celebrity he would have been know as a very good player and thats it

Namely kick a dead ball and cross, given space. But he was limited in many other areas.......tackling, dribbling, pace. Top teams could handle him, and did. He also directly contributed to England being knocked out of 3-4 tournaments through jumping out of tackles (Brazil 2002), missing penalties in shoot-outs, and - of course - his petulant girly kick at the Argie in 1998 which reduced us to 10 men.

world class crosser and free kick taker....pretty ordinary in almost every other aspect of his game

That ability won games.
As an all rounder he failed maybe, but he used his ability to maximum effect, which is why he could always keep a premium job down.
Add to that, the bloke was hardly ever out injured.

Name the thousand players then, waddle. Go on.

And learn how to take a penalty :****er:

Utterly ridiculous.

Being absolutely amazing at one or two things doesnt make you bad at everything else.

I disagree that he maximised his gifts. He had more ability than he is given credit for but didn't know how to use it in areas of the pitch outside of crossing or free kicks

Knocked out of world cups then surely waddle is going to appear on the list :-)

Mr million dollar cross field give the ball away doesn't make him a ball player

I don't think I, or Waddle, could name more than 1000 players in the modern game (post war) who are all better than Beckham. Of course he is in our top 1000. Probably better than that.

I think he had world class moments, but he was not a Maradona, a Messi or a Ronaldo, but then again how many are/were?

the most prestigious competitions going.

This is almost as good as your 'Chamakh is a miles better player than Bendtner' argument.

Laughable little man :hehe:

In the centre of midfield. His passing was superb and he had great technique.

He wasnt quick, didnt dribble much. Big deal. You could say the same about scholes yet he is held up as one of the greatest players of all time.

Do you know better than Sir Alex Ferguson and Fabio Capello, then?

He's a world class player, he could change games in a flash, he was the best passer of a footballer I've ever seen and he was far, far more professional than 99% of bellends that play professional footballer.

You could learn a lot from him - including on your spelling & grammar.

i don,t think that true at all. Becks nowhere near the best players in the world for sure but at his best in late 1990s to early 2000s he was still a very good player.

He peaked at man united for me and that when you saw the best of him. I personally hated the celebrity around him and he should never have been made england captain but i will say he was one of few who gave a **** playing for his country.

He could bend a football like few players and had great long range passing and was good at free kicks.

He was not as good as likes of figo or zindane. but he was still a very fine player. Yes in second part of his carrier the celebrity got far too big and it often be a circus at his later clubs but he was still a top class player that gave his best on the field.

Obscure the real picture. The image of beckham as a brand and a media whore shouldnt distract from the fact that he was also a real professional, better than many of the badge-kisding, roll your sleeves up merchants like johnterry.

Part of the problem was playing beckham on the right of midfield. Without pace it reduces him to crossing and retaining possession, narrowing the scope of his ability to influence the game. He was a better player in a central role.

I don't have anything against him or his professionalism, attitude to the game etc. He did that as well as anyone.

the right was the only position he could play in. The team worked to get the ball out to the right, to him in his area and he would do the rest. When he played ion the middle he was an very ordinary player imo. Couldn't read the game, always looked for the big million dollar pass, even when better easier balls were on and gave the ball away trying those silly balls way too frequently.
