I have never done this before and was not really told what I need to bring. Is my photocard licence sufficient? I don't want to give them my paper part as it has speeding fines on it and they might bump the price up.

I have been told that they usually just photocopy your plastic licence.

However, you do need paper counterparts 90% of the time.

know what an SP70 is, will they?

In France they'll only bother with the photocard. In Germany they'll want both bits. In Asia they don't care whether you have a licence or not.

Will they just want the photocard there? It's Spain, ffs. They don't care about much.

I have never been asked for my paper bit but always have it just in case.

Just have it in your bag but give them your photocard bit from your wallet. If you need the paper bit, you can always get it. But I also think it will make no difference to the price.

Who are you hiring with?

Another 'scam' they are doing in Spain at the moment is a full/empty fuel policy. So they give it to you full and you return it empty and pay the price of a full tank. a) They rip you off on the size of the tank you are buying from them. b) They rip you off on the price you pay for that petrol. c) It is impossible to bring it back completely empty so they always win there. d) They are ****s to a man.

Make sure you check for any scratches or dents when you pick up the car in the car park and go back to the desk if you need to.

that for any hire over 3 days you have no choice.

I have read some reviews though that if you do return it with a full tank they will refund most of your deposit for the fuel (depending on company).

The name of the company is Centauro, I believe.

There are loads on the roads around the airport, I think you normally get a shuttle bus to the office.

The fuel thing is an absolute ****. If you want to be clever, have a look at most likely cars in your class, so Seat Ibiza, Ford Fiesta, Opel Corsa etc and see if you can see online the size of the tank. Then when they tell you they are charging you 100¤ for a full tank (which they will!) you can ask them what rate and try and correct them by saying it is only a 50L tank in that car so a full tank would only cost x¤...

don't know what the fuel prices are per litre in Spain.

They are off-site yes. I'll be fine so long as I can find the bus from the airport to the carpark. My Spainish isn't too hot.

I think it is about 1.38 per litre iirc, I was there 2-3 weeks ago. But I would approach it to say like this...

"Sir, we will also charge you 100¤ for your tank of fuel"
"okay thanks, can you just jot down on there the size of tank and price per litre to get to that price?"
"Of course here you go"

Then you can either say - "Okay I know you are ripping my face off on the per litre price but I can't do much about that, but you can't charge me for 70 litres when it is a 50 litre tank in this car,"

Or just have it written on your paperwork and do your research after and try and complain.

a presidents club ticket, pay the extra, get a decent car and simple pick up from the airport, with the hertz pres club you can just go to the car and it has the keys in ignition and on way out you show them your driving licence..simples..if you are so Rich stop fecking about using ****e out of airport companies imo

I have never hired from an off site place in Malaga but the fuel policy we are discussing applies to all of the main companies in terminal as well. I don't know for Hertz as I have never used them as they are always double the likes of Avis or Europecar. And I don't get shít cars. The last one I had was a brand new Mk3 Leon with barely a couple of hundred km's on the clock.

some reason..I use Auto-europe generally as it only uses avis, hertz, europcar etc and is simple and gives a decent discount and if they use hertz then my presidents club and miles nad more miles thing both work too so all good imo ..ps I think the recession may be hurting Rich more than we thoguht ?

the second cheapest (I never go for the cheapest). You don't find out who it's with until you've paid.

I've read reviews though and they seem fine with new cars. I'm going to Ibiza afterwards and have Europcar there.
