Is it just Everton, the year after Liverpool won it and we had 5 teams in there?

*If we do finish 4th

better leagues having to play each other.

You'd still expect us to qualify but they won't be 5-0 walkovers like the games we used to have.

Or is the Italian league not considered one of the better leagues?

spuds finished 4th last season, but Chelsea winning the cup put them in the Europa League.

The point was that finishing 4th only guarantees Europa League football, fact.

If you want to try and argue otherwise then go ahead and do it.

1) I used Everton as the example, so no real point me asking Moyes.
2) It is impossible for last year to be repeated as there are no English teams left in the Champions League, let alone teams who are outside of the automatic top 4 places.

with them creating quite a lot of chances. And a Chesney penalty save. Before the new rule though we wouldn't have been playing the 3rd/4th placed team from the Italian league.

As i said, we should still qualify.

I'm just surprised more is not made of it considering Redflags insistence that it is uber important.

For me, I can only use history and facts to try and predict the future.

It guarantees a place in the Champions League qualifying round.

Winning that thing really is a fluke, isn't it?

Let's see who we have to play before assuming it's a done deal that we will be in the CL next season.
Assuming that we finish 4th, and that is still a work in progress.

didn't get to play one.

To Villareal, as it happens, whom we then met in the semi after they beat Rangers the previous round. So the yellow submarine saw off Glasgow a number of times.

The only people the 2005 Liverpool precedent of "holders must qualify even if outside the normal spots" rule has ever actually eliminated was... Spurs!

So a good deed all round, eh?

seem to recall one of the London sides winning it only to discover that there wasn't and actual Intertoto Cup to take home with them.

sounds like Arsene-type planning that.

By defnition if you are playing a qualifier you havent yet qualified.

It is very pedantic point but he is technically right.
