I will go as far as to say the spendthrift culture at the club will not change until Wenger is no longer in charge.

It is simply not his way of doing things.

Now whether you think that is good or bad really depends where you sit on the issue of Wenger and his continued stewardship of the ship.

commercial deals give an extra £50-£60m each year. That has to be spent on something other than a diamond club refurb.

Luis Anaconda

are lifted Wenger won't turn his nose up at the money on offer (Cazorla, Giroud and Poldi hardly came cheap). What won't change probably is a wage structure that will stop us going after the top top talent but enable us to sign the likes of Jovetic and possibly Jamie Carragher

Of course things went belly up in that time.

We may not be under pressure to sell as much given the previous declaration that it is an annual business requirement to sell each summer.

2-3 players, good players of course. No £20-£30m signings as some may hope.

The 2 new kit deals are in place on top of the CL money.
It'd be a shame to come this far and then miss out on the Champions League when all the money is rolling in.

Thus relegating Giroud to the bench, as much as saying he is not good enough, a mistake almost.

Come now BGM.

it was there before he joined, it will be there after he leaves imo.

He tows the party line imo.

Of course if he is really not spending money at his disposal then he really is walking a managerial tight rope.

Not cheap as you say.

Just don't expect us to go on a marguee signing spree of the type of names one would see linked to other clubs - the Cavani/Lewandowski types.

There is very little point us even getting involved with players of that status as ultimately we will be gazumped by others.

Couple of decent signings, and no departures, could make an enormous difference.

But only one can really play at a time within our tactical set up, unless you're going to force one into a slightly wider role.

You sign a 20-30m striker and I am not sure he will take too kindly to such a role, just a hunch of course. So he would expect to lead the line as such.

Which would mean Giroud is benched on a consistent basis which I cannot see after what was a very impressive first season at the club.

Remy makes more sense.

Probably a coincidence.

Only having one proper striker at the club is obviously silly. You're right that Remy would be a good squad addition but I expect Jovetic will come in.

where the money comes from is irrelevant, he is prepared to pay the prices if he believes the player is worth it. I have no idea about the net spend :-)

Fancy you not knowing a stat

The fact that we see figures of 25m being used doesn’t of course mean that is the real figure.

To me it seems a lot, for him and for us. £25m players are usually quite sought after, we seem to have a bit of a lone run on this boy.

He wanted Sahin. He had a budget available for Sahin.

In the end Sahin went elsewhere but that budget remained untouched, even after the subsequent loss of another midfield resource.

He is a curious player in the transfer market.

But equally his earlier stint at the club proved he wasnt shy about paying big fees for big players, and he didnt simply leave gaps in the squad.

As i have said many times, the notion that the financial restraints are of his choosing is without proof or logic.

I am leaning towards thinking that we might just be over the worst now and that the next few years might see a very slight upturn in our spending, on wages and fees.

Responsibly, of course
