I hated it, and I disliked and avoided football as a result.

Then one evening I was at Manchester airport waiting for a flight home and watch United dismantle someone at OT with Giggs flying up one wing and Kanchelskis up the other, and I was reminded how much I loved the game. So I went back to it.
