View Full Version : I tell you who really dodged a bullet with all this: John Peel.

That's right: Cuddly, beardy hippy John 'Here's the latest from Testicle Factory' Peel was not only a serial chickenhawk, he even boasted about it and actually married one, ffs!

Lucky for him he dropped dead of a clutcher 9 years ago imo. Jammy f**ker.

"This song has a tune so it's ****." His mantra bred a whole generation of cloth-eared trendies.

And, actually, has there ever been a more preposterous band than Zeppelin?

Luis Anaconda

True of course

I took badly against Led Zep when I was young, however. For my generation it was absolutely understood that Page was the Greatest Guitarist ever ever ever and Bonham was the Greatest Drummer ever ever ever and Zeppelin the Greatest etc etc etc. To even question one of these statements was to be the equivalent of a Holocaust denier, or, in today's terms, a climate change cynic.

suddenly struck me that 'THEY ACTUALLY MEANT EVERY WORD OF THIS ADOLESCENT TWADDLE!' And then I wondered what sort of c**t you had to be to sing Immigrant Song with a straight face and I'm properly off Zeppelin for life now.

I just assumed it was the mixture of brown acid and speed.

after every show so as to sweep up all the notes that Page accidently dropped while playing live.

As for Bonham, he was a beast of a drummer tbf.

Never got into Led Zeppelin when I was younger. I like tunes you see.

Oh, btw, I found out a chap I went to school with has written some Napoleonic naval fiction the other day. Haven't read it. No idea what it's like.

This makes you responsible for my £3.59 investment.

Did you try any Alan Furst, yet? I've very much enjoyed the first two.

again most recently. I do like William Boyd. Shame he's no idea how to finish a book, really.

How could the man who wrote 'A Good Man In Africa', churn out that ****?

Yes, Boyd is all great except the last couple.

The New Confessions is tremendous. My favourite might be Brazzaville Beach.
