or getting stung on ATM charges using a standard debit card?

Looks like Caxton seems to be the most highly regarded - anyone used one?

no fees to use the card. Only a small fee to withdraw from ATM
plus their exchange rates are very good. Not far off the real exchange rate and better than changing monies.

Just bare in mind you will always have some money left on the card from trip to trip. Yes you will get to reuse it next time, but if you don't travel that often, it may undermine the better fx rate you are getting.

you take it down to zero. But in reality, you will pay for a meal in your last restaurant and it won't take you to the penny down to the money left on the card.

My Euro one is fine cos I use it all the time, but my USD one had about $30 sitting on there for 2 years.

which I think I can stomach.

Definitely looks like Claxton are the best in every way apart, possibly, from exchange rate. No sign up fee and no ATM withdrawl fees or point of sale transactions when abroad.

withdraw in multiples of 10 (+the fee), doesn't leave you too much in there.

well and want to keep my account with them open for a while so don't know if getting one of these things might be the best option. Keep topping it up and not inform them i'm living in Sweden :rubchin:
