If a high profile footballer had got himself knocked down by a bus whilst on a piss-up, he’d be a disgrace, a bad role model, an idiot. Every report about Cipriani’s ”accident” has been very sympathetic. Say it was Balotelli. He’d have been putting the lives of the driver and his passengers at risk. They’d interview the traumatized victims. ”Kelly Brook’s boyfriend beats up bus” becomes ”BOOZE-FUELLED FOOTBALLER PUTS PUBLIC’S LIVES AT RISK”

And a vast exaggeration. The fact was in this case the bloke landed up in hospital which was probably the major reason the sympathetic view was taken - if you look back at Cipriani's previous indiscretions you will see he's been hammered for his, well getting hammered, in the past

Flintoff or Paul Gascoigne's antics over the years. Those lovable rogues.

Rugby, on the other hand, is largely full of honest, sensible folk who understand that decent sporting men deserve to be able to enjoy a decent sporting drink and damn the consequences.
