Salzburg is close to a city in Germany called Berchtesgaden. This is where Hitler had his cottage, aka "The Eagle's Nest".

Some 50 km away, by the Pont du Gard, lies one of the hidden treasures of French cuisine. Mario will serve you his 6 course Menu d'Homard, will choose your wine and pamper you at a very reasonable price. Seriously, if you're anywhere near the area, go visit Mario at Castillon du Gard. Mention my name and he'll give me a free Cognac when I'm there in July.
