you. It's a sorry state of affairs that we hold onto these meaningless results as season achievements. Wake up Arsenal fans. WAKE UP!

we beat barcelona 2-1 at home in 2011 when it was the first leg and only just lost 3-1 away from home. About when we beat spurs 5-2 at home twice when we under a lot of pressure to win.

We showed our quality in munich in terms of taking anyone on in europe and if we can get back in their for next season we can hopefully go further in the tournament.

was dead after leg 1. Like AC Milan of Italy the previous year.

playing without pressure in those games. But we still showed our quality and ablity by beating those two teams well in those games. Its not as if they let us beat them.

Also we shown before those games in europe that we beat top teams in europe in a first leg. 5-1 win in inter, 1-0 win real, 2-1 win over barca first leg.

Only thing i say is last two years we played shocking first legs and left ourselves to big a hill to climb. Got to cut that out if we to have a chance in the champions league knock out rounds next year.

or our handbrake-off performances against Barca?

The argument that we only start to play well towards the end of the season, when we are already out of the running, could just as easily be down to us having to rebuild the team every summer and taking time to gel properly.

so don't read anything into those 2 games.

If it is because we have to rebuild then surely the penny should have dropped by now that we shouldn't sell our best players every yr

to prove that we are brilliant/crap under pressure, but I don't know what that achieves.

to win were pressure games and we won. as won first leg of barca game. We shown we can win big matches against big teams in the past. With top player and champions league football their every chance we can push on to win things next year

A bit difficult to sleep through that whole birth thing, to be fair.

and with theo signing his contract that was statement of intent from club that we no longer selling our best players. :-)

we have been mentally fragile and have a very poor record against the bigger clubs

Appallingly physiological. You'd think they'd have come up with something better by now, wouldn't you? WENGER OUT!

in europe. Which we pretty much done. beaten barca 2-1, real 1-0, bayern 2-0 away, ac 3-0 and 2-0 in a second leg, beaten juventus twice at home.

So if we can learn to do it like in 2006 over two legs we can go far in the tournament.

modd
04-24-2013, 08:55 AM
and we did. The only thing i was saying is we have beaten big teams in past when pressure is on, not when their nothing to play for.

guns this season to often we gone behind 2-0. Need to work on that for next season if we to win things.

My point was that you were given two examples where the theory didn't stand up and your immediate response is to try and find reasons WHY we could ignore them rather than consider whether or not the theory is a pile of poo.

You know, maybe we perform under pressure sometimes and don't at other times. Maybe there are other reasons why we play better in some games than in others. Maybe we should look at things in slightly less black/white terms.

but it's a dangerous game that when you start selling your better players, then more of your top players are going to want to go

both with pressure and without pressure.

I think it is more black and white . We play crap sometimes when we already won a group and lose the final game but sometimes play well when we chasing a tie like in bayern.

At same time we play well under pressure at home to barca in first leg but also don,t play well when we lost 4-0 away to ac first leg with pressure.

I don,t think its pressure that the issue deep down. Its the peformance on the day and how well we play as a team.

players that could play in many top sides.

look at Man U, they are better than their individual parts, could be coaching but could be that they are mentally tougher than us

modd

enough to be top four team to going up the next level and being mentally strong enough to win trophies

We not coped with pressure of big semi and finals last few years and that what we need to cope with if we get in that postion next year to win things.

Their is no doubt man united are mentally stronger then us but that because they won so often over the years. But i think they are mentally strongest team in the country over last four or five years.

Which applies to ANYONE as Bradford and Blackburn can sadly testify :cupshock:

Anyone can beat anyone their day. Still those two cup defeats f**k me right of man. We cost ourselves two chances of winning those trophies by underestimating lower league teams.

To lose once to lower league team is bad enough but twice. Not good enough and even more bemusing when you consider how good we been in the league since. :banghead:

Hopefully lads will not make the same mistake in the cups next year.

but it looks like they have enough goals in hand to win the tie.
Wenger's record in Europe is one of 'heroic defeats',or meaningless pyrrhic victories.
Even when he had a team full of world class players he couldn't win anything in Europe and the current side doesn't have any world class ones in it. Fact.
