I've not really got a decent argument, beyond the 'spend some f**king money' one, as to why usmanov would lavish us with hundreds of millions without expecting any return.

I mean, he's a shrewd fellow who invests big and expects big returns. He's not got to where he is today by by pissing his money away and, lets face it, there's no way to piss money quite like pissing it into footballer's pockets.
