These are both wedge issues designed to increase the chances of a 2014 House takewover. They aren't actually designed to solve any problems.

What happened to jobs and the economy? the deficit? These are the issues foremost in peoples' minds. Neither party seems wont to address these issues.

so I haven't spent a lot of time on this issue. But from what I understand, this basically just eliminates the silly gun show loophole.

My understanding is that this bill would have simply required the same background checks in place at gun shops to be made at gun shows. Gun shows are a weekly phenomenon down here, clearly designed in response to this loophole.

Furthermore, I haven't seen any viable alternative. Conservatives oppose all Big Government ideas, so no new police, no new school psychologists, reduction in funding for maintaining records and in-person visits by heath professionals for mentally ill - actually a huge decrease in state mental health hospitals happened under Reagan and hasn't improved since. No efforts to reduce poverty, which has increased in the past 35 years.

So what then is your solution? What is the conservative solution? The lock em up and death penalty doesn't even fly because these mass murderers are all saving the last bullet for themselves.

So this is a step in the right direction imo and I'm open for better solutions.
