Knee injury removes him from the NZ tests. Better be back for the Aussies

I'd have a look at Buttler in the New Zealand series.

the only way they would be tempted is if Bresnan is fit to bat at 7, with Swann and Broad at 8 and 9 and even then they won't do it.

Plenty of time for a new face to appear. Anyhow, it's only NZ :hide:

but probably not quite good enough on the bowling front though. Stokes has had a good start to the season but is more of a bat than a bowler so would probably slot in at 6.

he seems to have put on a yard of pace over the last year or so. It's just a shame there isn't a freak like Flintoff playing anymore, someone who can bat and bowl at 90 mph.

but the current management like him. I think one of the batsmen (Root or Trott probably) need to work on their bowling to become a genuine 5th choice, rather than just a 5 over fill in bowler per innings.

Trott is quite useful in some situations and Root could be very handy if he continues to work on his bowling- Shame he is an off-spinner - would be nice if we had a left-arm option

1 of them should be working on their bowling a bit more than seems to be the case at the moment.

Vaughan and Pietersen could have been handy off spinners, but neglected that side of their game. Hopefully someone like Root will give an option in the future, we could always go back to Ravi and his golden arm!! He picked up a wicket in the first over of his first 2 spells for Essex last week.
