You could ride a frequency just by slightly increasing or decreasing the pressure of your figure on knob. Not turning it, with thumb and forefinger, just pushing ever so slightly up and down on the resonance or frequency knobs.

I believe that Tim Simenon for Bomb The Bass did all his stuff on that, and I still listen to Monty on the Run on my PC.

But the 303 was basically if some with talent (not me) had programmed in a sequence (especially one with slides) you could just twiddle cut-off frequency and resonance and be in acid heaven.
