You dont have to do much digging to realise that the old approach was largely a middle class subsidy, ludicrously restricting the numer of places availble and offering them to those meeting the hugely inflated entry requirements.

Obviously, the new approch of paying full fees AND restricting the number of places is a problem.

take any old job and run up massive personal debt instead (which they never pay back). If this is what you are referring to, then where does the blame for such reckless debt, which helped to destroy the economy, lie?

Is it with the lazy people that spend other people's money rather than earning it themselves, the banks that lent the money, or the governments that presided over the whole system?

If the governments are to take some blame, where did the system of easy credit start? With Margaret Thatcher and Ronald Raygun.
