you are as dismayed as I am by the vitriole regarding the passing of a leader long since not in power.

Seems rather macabre.

But then AWIMB is mostly made up of IT types, so there you go. An unrepresentative sample.

Exactly. Tell you more - most russians will rejoice 'cause he's perceived there as the man who broke up the USSR. aNd most russians (putin included) are nostalgic about the ussr, wanting to restore it in some way or another.
Not the same in other former soviet states, like Ukraine and baltic states, where people welcomed the su break-up.
