The media and the pointy headed ones will be positively shocked by the outpouring of respect amongst the commoners as they mourn the Iron Lady's death. They were all stupified by the volume of people that came out for Reagan in 2004. Lined up 5 deep in the streets as the mortorcade passed by and after three days of 24 hours of filing by the casket finally had to close it down with people still waiting.

in a tiny corner of SE England and possibly Grantham, Lincolnshire. The rest of the country, particularly the North & the provinces won't give a ****.

granted, I have only the most rudimentary knowledge of all her doings domestically.

She decimated large swathes of the country, writing off multiple generations by dismantling perfectly viable state owned industries.

Think Michigan, just on a voluntary basis.

Are you telling me that Britain used to be even MORE Socialist than it is now?

Even Russia realized that state owned businesses are doomed to failure. C'mon, man, you're an entreprenuer!

Our little experiment with state owned businesses isn't working so well. You should see the new cars coming out from GM and Chryselr :shudder: Their only hope is for the government to now dictate to the people what cars they cannot buy so that all left to choose from are these Obamacars ... oh hang on they are doing that.

Now we're held over a barrel by Russian and far eastern Gas & Oil producers and our whole economy is based on the whim of whatever these people want to charge us for it. Energy security is getting more and more important, over the next 20 years it'll come to be seen as a massive strategic long term error. Especially as North Sea Gas, which is really the only economic boost that saved Thatch anyway, dwindles away to nothing.

btw, there's some massive new reserves recently discovered in the North Sea -- albeit the largesse looks to be going to Norwegian firms.

We are likely simpatico on the f**ked up nature of the Energy Industry.. Don't think it makes a lot of sense as a matter of policy for reserves to come out of the ground domestically, only to be sold overseas if you are already an oil exporter. that seems to be what is going on there and here in the US.

and also our water.

Now owned by French and German firms.

So what was 1939 - 1945 all about anyways...

I know that's privately owned, I'm a shareholder!

At the end of the day it's just the ownersip of the assetsw, which may or may not be a worthy investment.

Veolia owns many municapal water utilities over here as well. Rate increases have to be approved... the pipes and water are here ... not a bad stock investment, though.

but I reckon there's already a lot of outsourcing going on.
