Though I was quite a fan of how pulp fiction ended by wrapping everything together really nicely. Actually, Trainspotting is another example of a 'proper' ending done well.

I'm going out on a limb here but the the whole third act of Revenge of the Sith left me with goosebumps.

I liked Cronenberg's Crash much better, I'm a sucker for his stuff though.

though I did enjoy that. In fact Empire could be put up there but you could also argue that it is not an ending as such just the finale of act 2 (or 5)

Then maybe. They weren't as terrible as some made out, but they weren't very good either. Had their moments but let down by a terrible script (see also the original trilogy) and acting (again...) and plot holes. And then there was "noooooooooooooooooooooooo". Honestly.

On a similarly modern tip and from the same director/writer, I found the ending to A Serious Man to be nearly perfect.

my friend though said they gave it away very early on when bruce was not talking to the kids mum even though inches away from each other.
