Apart from the end, which is ****.

Annoying that, lots of great films struggle with a decent ending. Does that undermine the film?

you hanging and you don't know what happened.

Personally I don't have the brain capacity to sit there and ponder what might have happened. I need to be spoon fed and I like my movies to be all sewn up at the end with a conclusion.

I still don't know what happened to The Wrestler.

I don't think it does at all. I look it like books - many quality books and films don't need "endings" - climaxes maybe (not that kind) - but so much of the best literature is a snapshot into one part of the life of a protagonist that to tag on a conclusive ending is fake. Stuff happened before, stuff will happen after - move on

Unless they all die at the end of course

Plenty of great films have **** endings, or even just plain formulaic 'happily ever after' stuff, when you think about it there are very few brilliant endings to films.

that has to have a "proper" ending. I am reading a Jack Reacher novel at the moment. I would disappointed if he doesn't pound the bad guys in the end. Similarly I love Bond novels and other detective stuff when you always know the hero will solve the crime

Who could write a rip-roaring tale but had no idea how to end it.

Still, from what I've heard over me sticking my fingers in my ears and going "lalalalalalala" it's pretty much the same effect.

bit........he looks nothing like Tom Cruise in my mind!!

Good to see that the film utterly bombed :-)

Got me through some very long journeys in Oz. I'm reading one of the later ones but as Child says you can read them in any order mostly. Quite a relief after getting through the first Game of Thrones book which was a cracking read but took some effort

and 3 films for The Hobbit. I thought they were taking the piss, probably are, but the first one was decent.

Though apparently he wanted to write a sequel.

When I read the final book, I was sad. I thought, this guy hates this series and doesn't ever ever ever want to be bothered by it again. Turning the Guide into the destroyer of the universe seemed very Freudian.

I know the feeling sometimes. Wish he had finished Salmon of Doubt.
