Whilst on my North American travels. Free wi-fi is everywhere.

Even small hotels offer it for free. The Airport has it the trains stations have it.

And I see EE harping on about 4g. isn't not even available yet. And they should really work out making their 3g work properly before offering 4g.

can access the Internet through.

Suddenly everyone has at least one of their own devices (and often several) making all of these in-room investments redundant.

All mid to high end hotels will eventually need to make wi-fi free - they're just holding on as long as they can.

hotels do have wi-fi they just often try to charge...that will change over time or possibly not..look at The Times website etc

internet friendly before the days when guests would have their own devices. To offer free wi-fi is to effectively write off that investment.

You are correct a lot of the 4* 5* are now offering it for free.

previously it was a huge rip off. Charging at least £10 a day. If a guest on business is staying for a week it's huge rip off.

When it costs hotels pennies.

The phone calls one disgusted me as I used to run the telepone reports.

Calls that cost the guest over £10 cost the hotel 8 pence.

a £200+ a night bedroom is going to cost probably no more than £6 to service a day.

this factors the laundry which is pennies. electric which most hotels have the saving device and have removed main lighting. and most of the time the people are sleeping.
and the staff. which we all know what hotel staff earn.
