Some injuries can be played through with no further risk of injury, some cannot otherwise they will not heal. Some need to be managed and playing may delay healing but may be more beneficial to play through and wait until a natural gap in fixtures to heal properly.

That is what modern day football and modern day sports medicine is all about.
