Contemplating buying an hard drive to store some media on, anyone recommend

He needs the programme so he can watch the media on his tv.

I have same problem at the moment I connect HD to laptop and laptop to TV and control everything via the laptop.

I've been looking at 1 or 2tb HD as well, but when I couldn't watch it on the TV without the laptop I was starting to think better of it, but now I will.
