But then I used to go through the barriers at Turnpike Lane and alight at Old Street without paying at least 3 days out of 5.

and can cope with going on buses. I would recommend getting a zones 2-3 ticket. depending on if it's convenient for you.then get the bus in to zone 1.

there are no zones for buses. and any travelcard includes bus pass.

Not so good if say you are on the Northern line which I expect as closest in you can get is Mornington Crescent. all depends on where you work.

If you are travelling in to highbury and islington for example it works out nicely as you can be in Old street in very little time on the bus.
