- and I think it was probably an understandable decision - where do people stand on goalkeepers being able to punch people in the face as when Lopez hit Vidic in the first half. Surely if he misses the ball it is a late challenge and just as reckless/dangerous as Nani's

Every chap on here that is defending the decision would explode with anger if we were 1 or 2 up next week and young JW was red carded for somethign similar.

All sorts of conspiracy theories would come out. Mainly from DG you understand.

I believe IS included in the wording of the rules about serious foul play.

I think it was simply too ambiguous to be a red.

Serious foul play

"A player can be dismissed for serious foul play if he uses excessive force or brutality against an opponent when challenging for the ball when it is in play."

Further to this, the law states: "A tackle that endangers the safety of an opponent must be sanctioned as serious foul play."

Surely in a crowded penalty area if you choose to punch a ball you could easily catch that can be construed as excessive force? At the very least if you mistime it and punch a player it is a penalty?

face by a goalkeeper" manoeuvre is perfectly acceptable as long as the recipient is a scum-sucking Man Utd ****wallah.

it is the disbelief & hysteria that is winding me up. I'm sure if that was us not a great deal would be said, just like when RVP was sent off whihch was by far a worse decision.
and yes I do have a chip on my shoulder

GKs are allowed to use their hands and that is a reasonable place to be to reach the ball. Same goes for clashing heads when 2 players go for a header.

A flying kick to the chest is a definite red card

mad. If you stopped them punching people in the head you'd basically be putting them out of business altogether.
