View Full Version : It's a shame we missed out on Varane.

Looks to be a great player for one so young. A big, strong pacey centre back who's good in the air. I wonder how a young player like him would develop at Arsenal with our defence?

He would probably turn into a quivering wreck after 6 months and be sold to Montpellier.

By all accounts Wenger had made enormous efforts to get him and thought he had.

We'd offered as much as they did.

Simple choice, Ferguson + Northern Club + Medals or Wenger + none.

Although this pleases me immensely I doubt I have done much to win the debate.

We just need to stop the silliness with things like playing him at right back and allow him to play what is his natural role.

Valencia being a player used wide right anyway, he’s just playing further back and as you say chasing the game he’s on the pitch at that stage as much for his attacking prowess as his defensive nous.

Ramsey isn’t the above and was (wrongly) crucified by an element of our support when he (naturally) did not cover himself in glory on occasions when asked to play there – albeit in a different tactical formation than United employ.

A better example would perhaps be Cleverly who I doubt Ferguson would employ there.

I now expect you to produce a fixture from last year or the year before where indeed TC did play right back. ****er.

a right back, is he?

He's standing on the half way line joining in as an extra midfielder. He keeps the ball better and is more of a threat going forward than Jenkinson. So it makes sense when chasing the game.
